To develop novel pea and lentil germplasm with enhanced genetic variability to explore innovative resistance traits; to develop consistent, and cost-effective, haplo genomic markers for rapid screening for pea root rot resistance traits; to collect long-term information on root rot incidence and severity across the Prairie\ provinces to increase understanding of risk factors related to root rot development; to model environmental factors and pathogen interactions that contribute to root rot development in pea and lentil with aim of improving root rot prediction and diagnostics; to develop a high throughput shoot imaging system that is correlated to root rot survey for efficient selection in disease nurseries and early diagnostics in the field; to characterize and exploit microbiomes of suppressive soils for biocontrol potential; to evaluate P and CuSO4 on pea root rot development; to assess promising biocontrol agents in field trials.
