Research Objective

Project Description

To assess the impact of Fusarium avenaceum on emergence, root nodulation, root rot and yield of faba bean; to evaluate fungicide seed treatments for management of Fusarium root rot in the tannin-free faba bean cultivar Snowbird.

Outcome

Seedling emergence and seed yield declined and root rot severity increased with increasing Fusarium avenaceum inoculum concentration. Each of the fungicides provided some level of protection for the seedlings from root rot pathogens, increased emergence and ultimately increased seed yield of cv. Snowbird. Nodulation was not affected. This study showed that improved root rot control has the potential to further increase the economic returns to faba bean growers.
