Description
CDC Lewochko is a high yielding mid-maturing yellow cotyledon, semi-leafless field pea variety that has very good seed characteristics. In 7 years of testing in the Co-op and Regional trials in Saskatchewan, CDC Lewochko yielded 102% of the check variety CDC Amarillo in in the south and 103% in the north (Table 1). CDC Lewochko has the highest protein among the yellow pea varieties (+0.9% vs. CDC Amarillo). CDC Lewochko has PBR’91 protection.

CDC Lewochko is a new variety with limited certified seed coming available in 2022. This variety is showing promising performance over 5 years of testing in the Regional Variety Trials (RVTs). Its high protein will ensure it is sought after by pea processing companies. In 55 site-years of RVT data, CDC Lewochko ranked 4th overall in statistical analysis of 10 years of long-term RVT data (Figure 1).
CDC Lewochko ranked in the top 3 varieties at Glaslyn, Kamsack and Meath Park. In Hodgeville, it ranked 6th however yield was significantly higher than AAC Carver, AAC Lacombe, Abarth, CDC Amarillo, CDC Athabasca, CDC Golden, CDC Meadow and CDC Saffron. Statistical analysis showed that higher-ranking varieties did not yield significantly higher than CDC Lewochko. This was also true at several other locations where CDC Lewochko ranked lower than the top three. Kamsack was a particularly good location where CDC Lewochko was significantly better than most other yellow pea varieties. Only AAC Chrome was significantly better than CDC Lewochko at this site.
