January 13, 2026 (Saskatoon, Sask.) – Saskatchewan Pulse Growers (SPG) Board of Directors has elected Stuart Lawrence as Chair, and BJ Haubrich as Vice Chair. Their positions will become effective at the close of SPG’s Annual General Meeting on January 13, 2026.
Lawrence joined the SPG Board in 2023 and is a fourth-generation farmer near Rosetown. He has previously served on Boards with Western Applied Research Corporation (WARC) and the Canary Seed Development Commission of Saskatchewan. Lawrence served two years as Vice Chair with SPG and has served on the Governance, Research & Development, and Communications & Market Development Committees during his tenure. He also represented SPG as Chair of the Farm & Food Care Saskatchewan Board and on the Pulse Canada Board.
Haubrich farms in southwestern Saskatchewan near Hazenmore and joined the SPG Board in 2024. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture degree from the University of Saskatchewan and worked as a field agronomist for several years before starting his farm operation with his family. Haubrich has served as Chair of SPG’s Audit & Finance Committee and on the Research & Development, and Communications & Market Development Committees. He also represents SPG on the Pulse Canada Board.
“I am looking forward to the opportunity to represent my fellow pulse growers in this role as SPG Chair and thank my fellow Directors for their support in electing me to this position,” says Lawrence. “I would also like to thank Winston van Staveren for his two years chairing the organization. Winston’s leadership and professionalism helped to guide SPG forward, ensuring our focus on pulse growers’ greatest challenges.”
Brad Blackwell is departing the Board having fulfilled the maximum of three three-year terms. Brad served as SPG Chair and represented SPG on the Pulse Canada and Grain Growers of Canada Boards. “I would like to thank Brad for his dedication and commitment to pulse growers in Saskatchewan for nine years,” says Lawrence. Dan Flynn also formally joins the Board after SPG’s fall election.
SPG’s Board contingent at the close of the 2026 AGM also includes Shaun Dyrland from Kyle, Dan Flynn from Lucky Lake, Gerrid Gust from Davidson, Jim Hale from Lancer, Robyn Henry from Hodgeville, Winston van Staveren from Creelman, and Terry Youzwa from Nipawin.
Accountable to and funded by growers, SPG’s strategic direction is guided by a nine-member, grower-elected Board of Directors. SPG’s mission is to provide leadership for profitable growth for Saskatchewan pulses.
