Research Objective

Project Description

This project evaluated key varieties of lentils, peas, chickpeas, common beans, and faba beans at strategic locations of adaptation in Saskatchewan in 2016. Trials were coordinated by the pulse crop breeding group at the Crop Development Centre (CDC), University of Saskatchewan and were conducted by the CDC, as well as by co-operators in the province.

Outcome

This project effectively evaluated new pulse varieties in the key production areas of Saskatchewan. Results were analyzed, summarized, and reported in a timely manner to facilitate decision making of growers, seed growers, breeders and seed companies. By supporting this project, Saskatchewan Pulse Growers facilitated the breeding of pulse crops for Saskatchewan by organizations and companies both within and outside the province. Annual data from the Saskatchewan pulse crop regional trials are summarized and incorporated into the long-term Saskatchewan means tables for publication in Varieties of Grain Crops.
