Description
CDC Greenstar (3339-3) is a high-yielding, large green conventional (non-imi tolerant) lentil variety. CDC Greenstar is the highest yielding large green lentil in the brown and dark brown soil zones. In 12 years of testing in the co-op and regional trials, it yielded 98% of CDC Maxim in the Brown and Dark Brown soil zones, and 80% in the Black and Dark Gray zones. This is 9% higher than CDC Greenland, 16% higher than CDC Impower and 6% higher than CDC Lima in the brown and dark brown soil zones. The yield gap is similar in the black and dark gray soil zones except compared to CDC Lima which yielded 5% higher than CDC Greenstar. Analysis of 10 years of Regional Variety Trial (RVT) yield data ranked CDC Greenstar at the top overall and yielded significantly higher than CDC Impower at Melfort, Rosthern, Milden, Scott, Saskatoon. It also yielded significantly higher than CDC Impower in 4 out of 5 years at Elrose, 2 of 6 years at Limerick and 4 out of 10 years at Swift Current. CDC Greenstar has improved resistance to anthracnose (race 1) compared to currently produced large green lentil varieties. It is rated intermediate for resistance vs susceptible for CDC Greenland, CDC Impower and CDC Lima. Only the 2021 release, CDC Grimm has better resistance and is rated MR. It has a larger seed compared to CDC Impower.
Strengths
- Highest yielding large green lentil
- Larger seed compared to CDC Impower or CDC Greenland
- Improved resistance to anthracnose (race 1) compared to other large green lentil varieties (rated intermediate)
Neutral
- Similar agronomic and maturity characteristics compared to CDC Greenland and CDC Impower
- Similar resistance to ascochyta blight as other large green lentil varieties
Weaknesses
- Not tolerant to imidazolinone
