Description
CDC Nimble (IBC-975) is a high-yielding, small red Clearfield® lentil variety. In 10 years of testing in the co-op and regional trials, it yielded 108% of the check variety CDC Maxim in the brown and dark brown soil zones and 109% in the black and dark grey zone (Table 1). It is the highest yielding small red lentil in the black soil zone. Statistical analysis of 9 years of long-term Regional Variety Trial data ranked CDC Nimble 3rd from the top for yield in the brown & dark brown soil zones and first in the black soil zone among 7 historical and new small red lentil varieties (Figure 1). CDC Nimble performed particularly well at Melfort, Rosthern and Scott where it ranked first or second for yield. Seed coat colour, cotyledon colour, flowering time, maturity, plant height, and disease resistance characteristics are similar to CDC Maxim. Seed diameter is slightly less compared to CDC Maxim but seed thickness is higher, making CDC Nimble more suitable for lentil dehulling. CDC Nimble has PBR’91 protection.
Strengths
- High yield compared to CDC Maxim
- Highest yielding small red lentil variety in the black soil zone
- High yield in both geographies is indicative of yield stability
- Imidazolinone tolerance
- Seed thickness is greater than CDC Maxim
Neutral
- Similar agronomic, disease resistance and maturity characteristics compared to CDC Maxim
