Description

CDC Jimini (IBC-1014-SG) is a high yielding small green Clearfield® lentil variety. In 2 years of head-to-head testing in the Lentil Regional Variety Trials, CDC Jimini yielded 113% in the brown and dark brown soil zones and 89% in the black and dark grey soil zones as compared to CDC Maxim (Table 1). Long-term yield comparison including co-op and regional variety trial data vs. the long-term averages for CDC Imvincible and CDC Kermit show a similar yield advantage over CDC Imvincible as well as over CDC Kermit. Compared to CDC Imvincible, this represents a 12-14% yield increase in zones 1-2 and 20% in zones 3-4. Seed coat colour, cotyledon colour, flowering time, maturity and plant height are similar to CDC Imvincible. Seed diameter and thickness are both higher than that of CDC Imvincible, making CDC Jimini more suitable for lentil dehulling. Disease resistance of CDC Jimini is similar to CDC Imvincible. Application for PBR’91 protection for CDC Jimini has been submitted.

Strengths

  • High yield compared to CDC Imvincible and CDC Kermit
  • Imidazolinone tolerance
  • Larger seed compared to CDC Imvincible and CDC Kermit
  • Taller than CDC Imvincible

Neutral

  • Similar disease resistance characteristics compared to CDC Imvincible and CDC Kermit

Weaknesses

  • None detected
