Research Objective

Project Description

To develop an in vitro protocol for Canadian field pea, chickpea, lentil, dry bean, and faba bean in order to quickly advance early generations.

Outcome

This project showed that the generation cycle of all pulse crops investigated can be reduced and 5 – 8 generations per year may be possible under optimal conditions. High frequency of in vitro flowering and seed setting confirm the ability of the rapid generation technology (RGT) protocol to save time while maintaining population size.
