Description

CDC Huskie is the highest yielding green pea variety to date. In 6 years of testing in the Co-op and Regional Variety Trials in Saskatchewan, compared to the check variety CDC Amarillo, it yielded 110% in the south and 108% in the north (Table 1). This represents an 11-15% yield gain vs. CDC Greenwater and a 5 – 8% yield improvement over CDC Forest. CDC Huskie has good resistance to seed coat breakage and bleaching. It has good standability, similar to CDC Raezer or CDC Greenwater.

Statistical analysis of 9 years of long-term RVT data ranked CDC Huskie in the top for yield in both the south and the north among 8 historical and new green pea varieties (Figure 1).

Strengths

  • Highest yielding green pea in both the north and south growing regions
  • Consistent high yield
  • Good seed characteristics. Rated good for:
    • Seed coat breakage
    • Resistance to bleaching
  • Good standability
  • Improved disease resistance compared to CDC Forest

Neutral

  • Medium maturity
  • Medium vine length
