Established in 2017, the Pulse Replicated On-Farm Independent Trials (PROFIT) program aims to deliver timely, accurate, and regionally specific information to pulse growers in Saskatchewan on integrated pest management, plant health, agronomy, and overall best practices for their farms.

PROFIT research is conducted and validated at the field-scale level on real farms across Saskatchewan under the expertise of agronomists and growers. Trial results are made available here on SPG’s website and to all participating growers.

Growers and SPG’s pulse agronomy network, comprised of leading experts in pulse production, agronomy, and research, determines specific research topics annually.

Growers are encouraged to get involved with the PROFIT program, whether by conducting research on their farm through the program or submitting topics of interest for future research. Learn more about how to participate below.

Specific goals of the program:

*Seeding PROFIT trials of CDC Greenstar lentils near Shaunavon, Sask., in spring 2024.*

Evaluate current integrated pest management, plant health, agronomy, and overall best practices and generate reliable, tested information for Saskatchewan pulse growers
Validate small-plot research results under typical field-scale management on real Saskatchewan pulse farms across different regions of the province, managed by agronomists and industry experts
Help Saskatchewan pulse growers determine best practices to maximize the profitability, health, and sustainability of their farms
Help bridge the gap between research results and adoption by communicating relevant outcomes widely and quickly to Saskatchewan growers as they are available

Interested in participating?

More and more growers participate in SPG’s PROFIT program each year, whether to test new products, practices, or pulse crops/varieties on their farms. Growers who participate receive a full report after the project is completed, with information tailored to their farm. They are also given the tools to conduct their on-farm research independently.
