Research Objective

Project Description

To develop at least three field pea varieties that have 3% or higher grain yield, and higher protein yield per hectare than the best commercial varieties; to develop and evaluate up to 1000 breeding lines derived from crosses between elite field pea varieties and high-protein breeding lines, and develop single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP)-based markers for quantitative trait loci (QTL) associated with protein content, grain yield, maturity, standability, and seed size; to develop germplasm and breeding materials for the future breeding program.
