Description

Kabuli chickpea variety CDC Lancer (3662) is a high-yielding kabuli chickpea. In 2 years of head-to-head testing in the Chickpea Regional Variety Trials (2019 – 2020), CDC Lancer yielded 107% and 106% of the check variety Amit in the brown and dark brown soil zones respectively (Table 1). In the head-to-head comparison, it yielded similar to CDC Palmer and about 5% higher than CDC Leader. CDC Lancer matures 3 days earlier than CDC Leader and has the advantage of imazamox herbicide tolerance (Solo ADV as per PMRA label registration). This variety has slightly improved resistance to Ascochyta blight vs.CDC Leader. Seed size is smaller than CDC Palmer or CDC Leader. Application for PBR’91 protection for CDC Lancer has been submitted.

Strengths

  • Herbicide tolerance (imazamox)
  • High yielding herbicide tolerant Kabuli chickpea
  • Early maturity

Neutral

  • Similar (slightly improved) disease resistance compared to CDC Leader

Weaknesses

  • Smaller seed size than CDC Palmer or CDC Leader
