Description
Desi chickpea variety CDC Sunset is a good yielding desi chickpea with tolerance to imazamox herbicide (Solo ADV as per PMRA label registration). In 3 years of head-to- head testing in the regional chickpea trials (2018 – 2020), compared to the check “Amit”, CDC Sunset yielded 102% in the brown soil zone and 96% in the dark brown soil zone (Table 1). CDC Sunset matures 2 days earlier than CDC Cory and one day earlier than CDC Consul. It has a larger seed than CDC Consul or CDC Cory. Application for PBR’91 protection for CDC Sunset has been submitted.
Strengths
- Herbicide tolerance (imazamox)
- Earlier maturity and taller than CDC Cory or CDC Consul
- Larger seed than CDC Cory or CDC Consul
Weaknesses
- Lower yield than CDC Consul or CDC Cory
- Lower tolerance to Ascochyta blight vs. CDC Cory or CDC Consul
